The relationship between bedroom, bathroom and living area needs attention, along with ventilation, noise, daylight and views. Future-friendly design can be useful now even before every adaptation is needed.
Comfortable now, adaptable later
A future-ready layout can make daily activities easier today. Consider the bedroom-to-bathroom route, room for assistance and clear lighting controls. Discuss which facilities are needed now and which only need preparation. Reserve space on the plan; later adaptation is not automatically possible without it. Have specific accessibility requirements assessed by an appropriate professional.
Allow for adaptations without installing everything now
Discuss possible future supports, lighting or door controls. Record fixing positions and service routes on drawings. A quiet office may then be easier to convert later. Check dimensions against the person and mobility aids; a generous room label alone says little about accessibility.
